Drownings are up 54%. While there is no cure for drowning (you're dead), they are entirely preventable.
This event got me thinking a lot about (the lack of) water safety in Kamloops.
Stan Cappis drowned at a City of Kamloops park just a few days after my incident. His body has not been found.

I assume this is the person who fell out of the boat, identity was never confirmed.
Jatin Garg went in the water to retrieve a ball with friends. Bystanders had to enter the water to rescue them, unfortunately Jatin drowned.

Braden jumped from the bridge, unaware of the submerged hazards in the water close to the surface. His body was not recovered for several months.
Why are there no concrete barriers at the end of these roads that terminate at the river bank? This is an easy, simple fix that would prevent this from happening again. This could have been 5 people dead if the rescue had gone wrong. Kamloops has some very brave people!
