Thompson Rivers Water Safety Society

This society is basically just me, Robert Griffiths, advocating for improved water safety in and around Kamloops, BC, in T'kemlups te Secwepemc Territory.

I am a 54 year old 'Son of Kamloops' - born and raised, and have lived in Kamloops for more than half my life. I left Kamloops at age 18 and returned at 42.

I am a graduate of Pineridge Elementary, Sa-hali Middle School, Kamloops Senior Secondary School (Grad '89), The University of Victoria (BA, Political Science) and Royal Roads University (B.Sc, Environmental Science).

Mission

Our current main mission is to induce the City of Kamloops to engage the Lifesaving Society of BC for a comprehensive water safety audit and implementation of all recommendations.

Why?

The City of Kamloops has had a dramatic increase in drownings and near drownings. There is no cure for drowning. Drowning is entirely preventable. The City of Kamloops approach has been to do the same thing (not much) and expect different results, all while ignoring offers of expert help from the Lifesaving Society of BC.

Get Involved

I feel we would be treating this differently if it was local people drowning. These visitors rarely have local people advocating on their behalf, we will do that for them. Please contact the City of Kamloops and request a water safety audit.
